9/26/2010

Gaden KhachoeShing monastery is happy to introduce Celebrity Chef Chris Bianco of Phoenix, AZ. to our Bloomington community.

Through a friend of our monastery Sierra, Chris has generously volunteered his time and talents to treat Bloomington residents to a limited seating, four course banquet at the Malibu Grill in late September.

Proceeds of the fund raising event will help to construct a sustainble, eco friendly new meditation hall on Dolan Road in Bloomington.

A winner of many cooking awards, including the James Beard Award, Chris has demostrated his culinary skills in numberous television shows, including Marth Stewart, Oprah, Jimmy Kimmel Live! Rachel Ray and more. He has spent his life building relationship with local farmers and sharing the bounties of the earth from his Phoenix kitchens. Food lovers worldwide make piligrimage to his establishments.

On this special occasion, he will create an organic, locally grown, slow food experience. Local farmers will provide the foods, and Malibu Grill will offer space and many others supports.

Tickets for the benefit banquet are $100 a plate. Because seating will be extremly limited, tickets must be reserved in advance: (812) 334-3456 or (812) 339-0857. You can also do online registration too.  Please specify if you want a vegetarian option.

Art auction

Alithograph: The image is called: Era (State 1) and was created in 1979 by R.C. Gorman. It is considered rare since only 100 were printed and Gorman died in 2005.

Rudolph Carl Gorman (July 26, 1931 - November 3, 2005), better known as R. C. Gorman, was a Native American artist of the Navajo nation. Referred to as "the Picasso of American Indian art" by the New York Times, his paintings are primarily of Native American women and characterized by fluid forms and vibrant colors, though he also worked in sculpture, ceramics, and stone lithography. Gorman learned about the work of the Mexican social realists: Diego Rivera, David Siqueiros, and Rufino Tamayo. He became inspired by their colors and forms to change from abstraction to abstract realism, using abstract forms and shapes to create his own unique, personal realistic style, recognizable to all who are acquainted with his work. While in Mexico, he also learned stone lithography from a master printer, Jose Sanchez. He used lithography throughout his life as a means of making original multiple images of his inspirations, often working by drawing directly on the stones from which the lithographs were printed

Cost: $100.00
